CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - POSTERS

Students, faculty, fellows and residents are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentations at the 2027 Health Sciences Research Symposium, that will take place on February 26, 2027. Basic and pre-clinical research as well as clinical and translational research in the health sciences is of interest. All poster presentations will be eligible for one of several awards.

  • CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - PODIUM PRESENTATIONS

    Podium presentation submissions are welcome. Submit a podium presentation concept or abstract via the form below. The deadline for podium submissions is Friday, January 8th, 2027.

  • WHO CAN SUBMIT

    There are no restrictions on eligibility for poster or podium presentations. Submissions are welcome from students, fellows, residents and faculty.

  • ALL ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS

    Please prepare a pdf document including the abstract title, authors, institutions, body of the abstract, and any relevant graph or image. Specific format requirements can be found below in the "How to Submit Abstracts" section. Please read carefully before submitting.

Poster and Podium Presentation Awards

All accepted poster and podium presentations will be considered for symposium presentation awards. Best Overall and Poster Finalist awards are intended for student presenters.

Peter G. Kaufmann Translational Research Award

The Peter G. Kaufmann Translational Research Award recognizes outstanding translational research that integrates rigorous science, interdisciplinary collaboration, and real-world implementation to advance improvements in human health across all phases of the translational science continuum:

  • T0–T1: Bridging basic scientific discovery and initial human applications
  • T2–T3: Advancing clinical trial evidence into routine patient care and practice
  • T4: Driving widespread health improvements and policy at the population level

This award is intended for faculty submission only. The recipient will receive a $1,000 stipend and will present their work and vision during the plenary session of the Health Sciences Research Symposium on February 26, 2027.

How to Submit a Nomination

Submit a nomination letter describing the accomplishments that merit this award and the nominee’s current CV. Self-nominations are permitted.

The nomination letter must be no more than two pages, using 12-point Times New Roman font and 1 inch margins, and be submitted as a Microsoft Word document or PDF.

Email the nomination letter and CV to hsrs@unlv.edu with the subject line PG Kaufmann Translational Research Award Nomination.

Nomination deadline: December 31, 2026

Nominations will be evaluated by an independent panel.

Abstracts

After the deadline, abstracts may not be revised or resubmitted.

Review By Scientific Committee

Each abstract is reviewed for adherence to content rules, significance, and presentation. The main factors considered for acceptance are:

  • Clarity: The objectives of the research are clearly described.
  • Significance: The research makes a significant contribution to respective field.
  • Methods: The methods used (design, implementation, and analysis) are appropriate to achieve the research objectives.
  • Presentation: The abstract is logical, interesting, clearly written, and free of grammatical or typographical errors.

Abstract Requirements

  1. Must include clinical or research data.
  2. Results must be the work of the listed author(s).
  3. Abstract submitters, if accepted, must register and attend the meeting.
  4. Abstracts containing identical or nearly identical data submitted from the same institution and/or individuals will be disqualified.
  5. Proofread abstracts carefully to avoid errors before submission.

Abstract Format

  • Microsoft Word document or PDF
  • 500 words maximum (excluding title, authors, and affiliations). This includes text plus any graphics (figures and tables).
  • 11-point Arial font
  • Margins: 1 inch
  • Abstract title: bold and centered
  • Corresponding author: Name and email address
  • Abstract body should preferably include: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions
  • May include graphs, tables and images
  • May exclude references

Poster Presentation

  • If your abstract is accepted, you will be invited to present your poster at the conference.
  • Please ensure your poster is professionally printed and adheres to the standard 3'x4'; (HxW) size commonly used in academic poster presentations. Detailed format requirements will be provided upon acceptance.
  • Presenters must be available to discuss their posters during the designated poster session times.

Selection Considerations

Space Limitations: Due to space constraints, not all high-quality submissions may be accommodated. Priority will be given to abstracts with the highest scores based on review criteria.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE

Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by February 5, 2027. Detailed guidelines for poster preparation will be provided at that time.
